Young Turkish Artists wins Art competition organized by the EIC

Earlier this fall Edmonton Intercultural Centre (EIC) had organized an event/competition called “Show Your Colours” as part of the annual Alberta Cultura Days celebration. Young Turkish Canadian artist Başak Ünsal emerged as the winner of the competition with her work featuring the Turkish Culture

In line with the Alberta Culture Days celebrations EIC had invited local artists to give a new life to the old trash cans at its cultural Centre. 25 artists representing 21 different cultures, amateurs-professionals, young and old ones had answered EIC’s call to join the “Show Your Colours” event to paint the cans in a way that represented their cultures.

Once artists completed their projects, Edmontonians got a chance to appreciate the artwork up and close at the Kingsway Mall in an exhibit that lasted from September 30th until October 17th. Visitors also got a chance to vote for their favourite artwork. Once the paper ballots and online votes were tallied, Başak Ünsal emerged as the winner of the inaugral competition, and the $1,000 grand prize.

We congratulate our young artist for her hardwork and the beautiful art piece she created to represent Turkey and the Turkish culture.
